Costco and Academy Sports & Outdoors are expected to open their doors in Mooresville later this year, bringing more jobs to the area.
Academy Sports has announced that it will be opening two new North Carolina locations this year, in Mooresville and Gastonia. Academy expects, between the two new locations, to providee 120 new jobs to the area.
“As Academy Sports & Outdoors continues to expand its presence in the Charlotte metropolitan area, we are excited to open these new, convenient locations to serve sports and outdoor enthusiasts in these communities,” Sam Johnson, the company's executive vice president of retail operations, said in a news release. “These new stores will offer customers tremendous value with a fun assortment of sports, outdoor and recreation lifestyle products at affordable prices, along with knowledgeable and friendly team members.”
By having Costco and Academy Sports in Mooresville, the overall project is expected to result in about 400 new jobs, including the Gastonia location.
This site will also allow for an Olive Garden, smaller retailers and a gas station to accompany Costco and Academy Sports.
This will positively affect Iredell County by providing additional retail businesses for an area that is not currently available, Lynn Niblock, director of building standards for Iredell County said.
“We continue to grow in population for many reasons, business expansion being just one of those,” Niblock said.
There is currently no time frame that can be officially announced for the retail center’s opening date. It will be located at Brawley School and Talbert roads.
