S’western nachos, enchiladas verde, churros or a fiesta for two – Cantina 1511 brings Mexican flavors long loved in Charlotte to the heart of Mooresville.
Located at 120 Marketplace Ave. Suite D, Cantina 1511 opened on Memorial Day following several months of renovation and design. Since then, the Morrison Plantation area restaurant has welcomed many new faces that have already become regular customers. Cantina 1511 woos guests with authentic Mexican cuisine alongside exceptional service and a colorful, inviting environment – a successful concept echoed at the Charlotte metro’s two established locations.
“Being able to get into the Mooresville market with our menu is important to us,” said Dick Campbell, president and CEO of Quantum Development, owner of Cantina 1511.
Mooresville’s newest Mexican fare destination is the third location for Cantina 1511 with other locations on Charlotte’s Park and Rea roads. The brand emerged in 2004, opening at 1511 East Boulevard in the Queen City – an address that brought the restaurant its long-held name.
Campbell said that first Cantina 1511 delivered something new to the community.
“It was an opportunity to introduce higher-end Mexican products.”
His company acquired the brand in 2012 and growth continued from there.
“We want to continue to build upon our early successes,” he said, noting that the Mooresville location is the third of a growing concept anticipated to expand more across the Charlotte region.
“We’ve been looking to come north [of Charlotte] for five years now.”
Offering a lively and busy environment, Cantina 1511 prides itself on signature Mexican dishes and cocktails. Its drink menu features more than three dozen quality tequila options as well as unique adult beverages showcasing habanero whiskey, agave nectar, fresh fruits and more. For the dining palette, the month-old restaurant boasts authentic flavors, including Mexican barbacoa, enchiladas suizas, baja fish tacos, charro beans, sweet plantains and cuatro leches cake. Distinct dishes such as antojitos and al pastor marinated salmon round out the large menu as well as gluten-free options.
“We have a very extensive menu,” noted Campbell. “People up here are still exploring. People are still trying us out.”
To the new Mooresville spot – 4,000 square feet in the former East Coast Wings location – Cantina 1511 also brings a bright and welcoming environment, including a large outdoor patio. The outside seating option, said Campbell, has become a prime feature of the established and local Charlotte-area chain.
He added, “Someone said it was the nicest patio in Mooresville.”
Cantina 1511 extends numerous specials to guests throughout the week, including “kids eat free” every Tuesday and daily workweek lunches for $9.95. Currently, it is preparing a full menu for participation in Queen’s Feast Charlotte Restaurant Week, which runs through July 28.
Said Campbell about the latest Cantina 1511 destination, “It’s all about the food and the drink, but you have to wrap your food and drink with service and ambiance.”
