A Mooresville man was arrested after several hundred people created a disturbance along East McLelland Avenue late Thursday night and early Friday morning, police said.
Deputy Chief of Police Gerald Childress said in email Thursday afternoon that officers responded to the 400 block of East McLelland Avenue after receiving multiple calls concerning fights and disturbances.
“Approximately 200 to 300 people had gathered for a community outing that turned aggressive as the night proceeded,” Childress said.
He also said additional law enforcement units from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina Highway Patrol had to be called in for support due to the large crowd and safety concerns for officers.
He added officers were able to restore order in the area around 1 a.m. Friday.
During the incident, Myrone Laquan Rickett, 36, of Mooresville, was arrested for disorderly conduct and public intoxication, Childress said.
A photo of Rickett and his bond amount was not immediately available.
