A Mooresville man faces charges of sexual exploitation of a minor after local officials followed up on a tip from a government task force.
Geoffery Alan Mayo, 25, of East McLelland Avenue, was charged Oct. 1 with nine counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He is being held in lieu of a $150,000 secured bond.
Maj. Ron Chilton with the Mooresville Police Department said officers were asked to look into Mayo’s activity by the Internet Crimes Against Children’s Task Force, a subsidiary program of the U.S. Department of Justice’s juvenile justice wing.
He did not disclose when the tip was received, but said the charges are the result of the investigation initiated from it.
Warrants indicated Mayo was in possession of multiple representations of minors posed in suggestive manners and engaging in sexual acts. The ages of the victims were estimated to be between 2 and 15 years old, warrants revealed.
A timeline in the warrants states the offenses occurred between Jan. 1, 2018 and June 21, 2019.
Mayo is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 21.
