Three inmates at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center were charged with assaulting four detention officers over the weekend, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Inmate Larry Wade Stanley, Jr. refused to go back to his cell Saturday night, the release stated. When detention officers began moving Stanley to his cell, two other inmates, Thomas Utah McDonald and Dustin Logan Ensley, got behind the officers and began assaulting them, the release said.

Four officers sustained injuries to their face, head and arms and were transported to Atrium Health – Lincoln. One officer received a concussion and another officer received stitches, according to the release.

The sheriff's office did not release any other details about the assault.

Stanley, 43, of Lincolnton is charged with felony attempted first-degree murder, assault by strangulation, four felony counts of assault inflicting serious injury on a law enforcement officer and conspiracy. He was not given a bond.

McDonald, 24, of Denver and Dustin Logan Ensley, 29, of Lincolnton are charged with four felony counts of assault inflicting serious injury on a law enforcement officer and conspiracy. They were placed under a $100,000 secured bond each.

Sheriff Bill Beam described the assault that left one officer with a concussion and another with stitches as “savage” in the release.
