A convicted sex offender faces additional charges for violating residence requirements.
Michael Connor Lamp, 37, of Gun Club Road, was charged with felony sex offender residence violation and felony sex offender fail to register.
Lamp updated his address to one on Foxcroft Terrace and a deputy with the sex offender compliance unit went to check on Lamp and discovered that the address was within 1,000 feet of Statesville Montessori School, Sheriff Darren Campbell states in a release. The deputy was unable to make contact with Lamp initially, then determined that the address was different than the one presented and that Lamp was actually staying in a different unit with friends. Further investigation revealed those tenants, and Lamp, had been evicted, Campbell states.
After the investigation, Lamp was charged and was arrested on Sunday. He was issued a $12,000 secured bond by a magistrate.
Lamp has a criminal history involving, among other charges, felony attempted second-degree kidnapping, misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, felony escape from state prison and multiple counts of DWI.
