The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Charlotte man after he was accused of purchasing a car with another person’s identity, a news release stated.
Shawnn Laron Summers, 21, of Charlotte, is wanted on felony charges of identity theft and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Sheriff Darren Campbell said deputies received a report from Randy Marion Ford on Folger Drive in Statesville about a man who purchased a 2017 Cadillac Escalade. The dealership had been notified by a man that he had received a credit card alert Sept. 27 stating that he had bought a car; the man informed the dealership that purchase was made by someone else in his name, Campbell said.
The dealership staff had verified the information on a South Carolina driver's license identifying the victim.
The dealership contacted the sheriff’s office about the car being bought with false information. Campbell said detectives recovered the undamaged vehicle in Raleigh. Campbell said the vehicle had been resold.
The Raleigh Police Department arrested two people who were in possession of the vehicle, the release stated.
Campbell said Detective Danny Wyatt verified through the investigation that multiple vehicles across several jurisdictions, and neighboring states, have been fraudulently bought in the same manner. Wyatt identified the suspect who bought the Escalade as Summers and secured warrants.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Summers is asked to call the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office 704-878-3100, or the Iredell County Crime Stoppers 704-662-1340. Callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to give their identity or testify in court, and a reward of up to $1,000 is possible.
