The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a suspect in a jewelry theft.
Thomas Lee Britt, 27, of Fieldstone Road in Mooresville, is not yet in custody. He is wanted for eight counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense, felony larceny, felony safecracking and felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.
Abbigail Shipley, 29, also of Fieldstone Road, has been charged with felony larceny. She was arrested Tuesday and received a $7,500 bond.
On June 12, the sheriff’s office received a report of jewelry stolen from a residence. The victim estimated the value of the jewelry at $34,000, and an investigation was begun, Sheriff Darren Campbell states in a release.
Detectives spoke with the victim and other witnesses and learned family members were suspected of stealing the items, the release states. An investigation led to Britt and Shipley, who were accused of stealing the jewelry while inside a Mooresville home.
Detectives then uncovered evidence that Britt had sold the items for scrap on eight different occasions at Race City Coin and Collectibles, the release states.
Anyone with information on Britt’s location is asked to contact Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at 704-878-3180 or Iredell County Crime Stoppers at 704-662-1340. Callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to reveal their identity or testify in court and a reward of up to $1,000 is possible.
