Iredell-Statesville Schools is working to continue to innovate with its digital teaching and learning and rolling out the1:1 device plan. Apple Vanguard is a professional development opportunity available to teachers in the system.
This week marked the culmination of six days, spread out through the year, of teachers learning how to encourage students to be creative in demonstrating what they have learned using their MacBooks and iPads.
Teacher leaders from almost every school in the district participated. Throughout the process, the teachers and coaches also became certified Apple Teachers. There were 38 participants in the elementary and 30 in the secondary programs. Apple Professional Learning Specialists provided the training.
“We have been excited to see these teachers take what they have learned back to their classroom to try with their students and then to see the enthusiasm spread to other teachers and classrooms as well,” said Jackie Parker, digital teaching and learning coach for Iredell-Statesville. “Many of these teachers are also providing training back at the schools for their fellow teachers.”
Funding for this training was paid for through an iQuest grant for professional learning. This is part of the district’s contract with Apple for devices and training.
