The Mooresville Graded School District is asking any family with a rising kindergarten student that might be interested in a dual immersion program to register.
Dual Immersion is a program where students receive 50/50 Spanish and English instruction on an every-other day rotation. Students will receive Spanish instruction from a bilingual teacher every other day. Students in the Dual Immersion program will learn to speak, understand, read and write in Spanish as well as English.
Any rising kindergarten student who will be 5 years old by Aug. 21 is eligible.
District officials said nearly 40 years of research indicates immersion students score significantly higher on standardized tests than non-immersion students; are better able to navigate the complexities of a multicultural global society; and that the bilingual brain is better able to perform high level thinking processes than the monolingual brain.
