Atlanta-based GIGA Data Centers will bring a 60-megawatt data center to Mooresville, the company told the Record & Landmark Thursday.

President and CEO Jake Ring said the center should be operational next year.

The Iredell Board of County Commissioners and Mooresville Town Board approved a combined $6.6 million in tax incentives for GIGA in August, although the company’s identity was not revealed.

“We are very excited for the opportunity,” Ring said. “Community support has been great so far.”

GIGA paid $9.5 million for 21 acres at N.C. 115 and Timber Road on Sept. 17, property records show. Ring said a building already on the site will be converted by Barger Construction Co.

Ring said GIGA chose the Mooresville property because of available utilities, space and telecommunication fiber optics.

The company expects to hire 25 employees, although the Iredell County Economic Develop Corp., in its request for the town and county incentives, said the company would create 44 local jobs paying slightly above the average Iredell wage.
