Statesville 41, Carson 10
CHINA GROVE—Behind Caylon Imes’ career night, Statesville breezed to a 41-10 North Piedmont Conference win over Carson on Friday night.
The senior running back carried the ball 13 times for 309 yards as the Greyhounds (9-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten.
Carson (2-7, 1-2) managed to keep the game scoreless for one quarter. Imes’ first touchdown run with 8 minutes, 39 seconds left in the half made it 6-0.
Imes’ 89-yard TD dash late in the second quarter sent the Greyhounds into halftime leading 19-0. He had a 91-yard TD run in the second half that extended the lead to 41-3.
Statesville receiver Ky’Wuan Dukes eclipsed 100 yards receiving on three catches, including two for touchdowns.
Vance 24, Lake Norman 21
CHARLOTTE—Lake Norman threatened to pull off a big upset Friday night, but Vance survived.
The Cougars recovered an onside kick and scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes to prevail 24-21.
Vance led 10-7 at halftime.
The Wildcat defense sparked a second-half surge. Crishon Shepard and Gavin Gibson each returned an interception for a touchdown, lifting the Wildcats to a 21-10 advantage.
It wasn’t enough and for the second time in as many weeks Lake Norman endured a hard-fought, three-point loss in I-Meck Conference play.
West Rowan 44, North Iredell 0
OLIN—West Rowan’s Cayleb Brawley ran for a 65-yard touchdown in the opening minute Friday and the Falcons never looked back on their way to a 44-0 victory over North Iredell.
It was 16-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Jalen Houston, who had a nine-yard TD run in the first, scored on runs of 50 and 58 yards in the second quarter for West Rowan (6-3, 3-0).
The Raiders slipped to 0-9 (0-3).
Alexander Central 30, St. Stephens 16
TAYLORSVILLE—Alexander Central scored the game’s final 14 points to overtake St. Stephens for a 30-16 win Friday.
A.J. Miller’s 45-yard touchdown run lifted the Cougars to a 22-16 advantage with 7 minutes, 55 seconds left. He had 99 yards on 11 carries.
After a defensive stop, Miller returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown.
Lance Justice rushed for 102 yards and a TD on 10 carries, and he connected with Josh Abernathy for a 26-yard TD pass.
Steven Montgomery added 96 yards on 11 carries for the Cougars.
