Two local schools placed in the top five at the West Regionals of a state choir competition.

Lake Norman High School was first place with a superior rating in the N.C. Association for Scholastic Activities eighth annual N.C. Show Choir Competition and N.C. High School A Capella Competition. The regionals were held in three locations: Fayetteville, Durham and at Lake Norman.

The Wildcat choir consists of Joey Azzara, Aidan Baker, Sabine Blattner (dance captain), Kathleen Bodine, Trevor Borzoni (choreographer), Bradley Brown, Will Commer, Matthew Cvach, Blake DeRienzo, Logan Dixson, Brianna Dougherty, Julia Dow (choreographer), Ashley Gates, Henry Gomez, Jacob Grenke, Anleigh Hall, Makayla Malone, Samantha O’Sullivan, Rayna Phillips, Maya Schacher, Molly Sicilliano, Kaeleb Stilwell, Noah White, Kayleigh Wisniewski and Virginia A. Wagner (director).

The Mt. Mourne choir finished in fourth place and received a very good rating.

The Mt. Mourne choir consists of Rylie Cataldo, Daniel Cieslinski, Cody Doan, Henry Dyess, Gabriel Faria, Anna Frey, Sawyer Hosea, Tanishka Jha, Makenzie Klein, Alexis Lima, Jackson Maltsbarger, Nicolas Sendler, Addison Talbert, Olivia Tipton, Jameson VanWormer, Will Vuk, Ranni Yavanamanda and Aiden Zanotti.

Lake Norman will now advance to the state finals, which they will host May 4. The two three-show choirs advance to the state finals.
