Second to only one.
Matching an all-time personal best in the process, Mooresville’s Spencer Evans turned in a second-place finish in his specialty event participating in the 29 th annual New Balance Nationals Outdoors Track and Field Championship Meet.
Doing so at Mooresville’s Rocket Man pole vaulting training facility, Evans crafted a perfectly clean score sheet and cleared a height of 16 feet, 5 inches for his next-to-the-best showing in the pole vault event.
The distance matched a personal best for the rising senior at Lake Norman High School.
The effort came to compliment Evans’ second straight securing of the pole vault title when competing in the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 4A class state championship meet held in late May.
The height cleared also secured Evan’s fourth All-American recognition as well.
Evans continues to conduct his personal training at Mooresville’s Rocket Man Pole Vault outdoor training center.
He put those ties into play when joining entries from across the country for participation in the New Balance Nationals held at Aggie Stadium on the campus of Greensboro’s A&T University. Evans chimed in second-best to account for the highest such finish of any other area entry competing in any other event during the weekend-long competition.
