The Winnie Hooper Center Afterschool students presented a “Walk Through History” event Jan. 17 at the Mooresville Arts Gallery, which served as a kick-off to the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebration.

During the event, students dressed as historical figures that were important to the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and they read facts detailing inspirational accomplishments that contributed to equity and equality for all people.

Barbara Johnson, recreation center supervisor at the center, said that “the students enjoyed learning about historical people who were leaders during the Civil Rights Movement.

“On behalf of the students and parents,” Johnson shared, “we are grateful to the MLK Committee, the Mooresville Arts Depot and our Mooresville Parks and Recreation Department for the opportunity for students to participate in an event commemorating the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.”
