North Iredell High School hosted the 16th annual Iredell County Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps Drill Competition on Wednesday. The Marine Corps League in Iredell County sponsored the event as it does every year, said Dick Camery, commandant of the county Marine Corps League.

The North Iredell High School Army JROTC, the West Iredell High School Army JROTC, the Statesville High School Army JROTC, the South Iredell High School Marine Corps JROTC, and the Mooresville High School Naval JROTC competed at the drill competition. Lake Norman High School did not attend because it does not have JROTC on their campus, Camery said.

Camery said that the county Marine Corps League gives the host school $2,000 in fundraising every year. He said they rotate among the high school JROTC programs in the county.

“You always hear about kids being in trouble,” Camery said. “When you see them here, you see discipline.”
