The Iredell County Sheriff's Department is asking for help finding a teen described as a runaway who lives in the Mooresville area.
Kelsie Jane Prevatte, 16, was reported missing June 30, Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell states in a news release.
She was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, turquoise fleece pajama pants and black Vans shoes. She is approximately 5-foot-10, weighs approximately 210 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes, a release states.
The teen reportedly ran away from a group home in the Mooresville area and was last seen leaving the area on foot. She went to a nearby business, borrowed a phone from an employee and called several people, was given money from a customer and took a taxi to the Statesville area, the release states. She is believed to have since traveled to the Winston-Salem or Greensboro area, Campbell said.
She is in the custodial care of Currituck Child Protective Services. She has family in Virginia and may be traveling in that direction.
