A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Tuesday evening.
Shawn Clifton Soules, 47, of Kannapolis died in the crash.
At approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday, the North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash on N.C. 3 (Coddle Creek Highway) at the intersection with Johnson Dairy Road, according to Master Trooper Jeffrey S. Swagger.
A BMW passenger vehicle was traveling north on N.C. 3 and the motorcycle was traveling south when the BMW attempted to turn left onto Johnson Dairy Road, failed to yield the right of way, and collided with the motorcycle in the intersection, Swagger stated in a release.
The driver of the BMW, Douglas Robert Catropa, 47, of Mooresville was not injured. Soules was the driver of the motorcycle.
Catropa was wearing a seatbelt and no impairment or phone distraction is suspected. Soules was wearing a helmet; no impairment or excessive speed is suspected, Swagger stated.
Investigating troopers will be in consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office concerning possible charges, Swagger stated.
