Two Morganton men are facing numerous drug-related charges following a traffic stop, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office reported.
On Nov. 26, Cedric James Brown, 23, and Chad Michael Sampson, 24, were each arrested on felony charges of trafficking cocaine by possession, trafficking cocaine by transport, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana and possession of marijuana. Each was also charged with misdemeanor possession of a Schedule III controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sampson was also served with a warrant for failure to appear in court.
Brown is being held on a $300,000 secured bond; Sampson received a $304,000 bond.
Sheriff Darren Campbell said deputies with the Interstate Criminal Enforcement team stopped a BMW on Interstate 40 West near mile-marker 154 on Tuesday.
Deputies noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car while speaking to the driver and conducted a search of the vehicle, Campbell stated in a news release.
The search uncovered 28.5 grams of powder cocaine hidden in the glove box, 72.5 grams of marijuana packaged in various bags, implying the sale of narcotics, and six Xanax pills, Campbell said. He added marijuana wax was also found in the passenger’s pants while he was being searched.
Sampson has a criminal history involving possession of marijuana and driving related charges.
Both Brown and Sampson are scheduled to appear in Iredell County District Court on Dec. 18.
