A 64-year-old Mooresville man died Sunday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle south of Mooresville.
Sgt. Chad Crouse of the N.C. Highway Patrol said Earl Gillon, 64, of Mooresville, died at the scene of the crash in the 1800 block of Mecklenburg Highway.
Crouse said Gillon was riding a bicycle traveling south on Mecklenburg Highway. A vehicle, driven by Theodore Tierno, also of Mooresville, was traveling south.
“He (Tierno) pulled out to pass the bicycle and the rider made an abrupt left turn,” Crouse said. The vehicle struck the bicycle, he said.
Gillon was wearing a helmet, Crouse said.
No charges have been filed. Crouse said charges may be pending.
