The theft of fishing equipment from a boat led to charges against an Olin man.
Dustin Tyler Napier, 23, of Tabor Road, was charged with breaking and entering a boat and larceny, both felonies, and one count of misdemeanor breaking and entering. A magistrate set bond at $5,000.
Iredell Sheriff Darren Campbell said deputies answered a call Oct. 27 concerning the theft of several fishing rods, reels and other fishing equipment from a boat on Tabor Road.
While speaking with a witness, deputies learned Napier was a possible suspect.
Two days later, Oct. 29, deputies answered a domestic disturbance call in the 500 block of Tabor Road. Napier and his mother were involved in a verbal argument, Campbell said in a news release.
He said deputies learned Napier had broken into a neighbor’s outbuilding Monday and he was arrested on the misdemeanor charge. He received a $1,500 unsecured bond from a magistrate.
Property crimes detectives were given the information as they continued to investigate the theft from the boat. Nearly $500 worth of the stolen property was recovered, Campbell said. As a result of the investigation, Napier was arrested on the two felony charges and received the $5,000 secured bond.
Napier’s criminal history includes felony and misdemeanor larceny, Campbell said in the release.
