MOORESVILLE Mattie Chester Christenberry, 90, of Pine Street in Mooresville, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville. Born June 11, 1929, in Lexington, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Walter Lee Chester and Ola Bright Chester. Mrs. Christenberry was a retired salesperson for Belk department store in Mooresville. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church of Mooresville. Mrs. Christenberry was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John Pinkney "J.P." Christenberry Jr.; brothers, Jack and Lee Chester; and sister, Ann Cline. She is survived by her children, John D. Christenberry and wife, Bonnie, Rick Christenberry and wife, Terry, and Leigh Anne Overcash and husband, Howard; sister, Linda Crump; brother, George Mack Chester; grandchildren, Stephanie Smith and husband, Marty, Heather Christenberry and Daisy Wilson and husband, Ryan, and Tria Daniels; and great-granddaughters, Emma Smith, Hayley Christenberry and Laynee Mae Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 20, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625, or to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 355 S Broad St., Mooresville, NC 28115.
