MOORESVILLE James Chandler Gabriel, 93, went to his heavenly home Friday, Aug. 9, 2019. He was preceded by his wife of 70 years, Willie O. Gabriel. James "Jimmy" received his licentiate in pharmacy in June of 1951. He owned and operated Troutman Drug Store until he retired. He was also a volunteer with the Troutman Fire Department and Rescue Squad serving in many capacities. He was a strong Christian, always putting his fate in the hands of his Lord. When no one else would take the call number of "13," he without hesitation took it. His Lord knew no superstitions. His license plate on his car was "TFD-13" until he retired after 20 years. He was always active in the churches he attended. He went with the Baptist Men on a mission trip to Poland. James touched a lot of lives through his Christian witness, his work through the drug store, the church, the fire department and rescue squad. He is survived by one son, Larry and wife, Ginger Gabriel; one grandson, Joshua Chandler Gabriel; one brother, Leon Gabriel and wife, Joy of Cary; and nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice of Raleigh, 4505 Falls of the Neuse Road, Suite 650, Raleigh, NC 27609, heartlandhospicesund.org. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at Triplett United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mooresville. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory of Mooresville is serving the Gabriel family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
