MOORESVILLE Hubert Edward "Eddie" Nelson, 85, of Mooresville, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019, at his home. He was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Greensboro, to the late Hubert E. Nelson Sr. and Lula Belle Boliek Nelson. He graduated from N.C. State with a degree in electrical engineering. Eddie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Jackson. Eddie worked for Duke Power for 35 years in Greensboro, Durham, and Mooresville, retiring as Superintendent of Engineering, Operations, and Construction in January 1991. His community activities include 40 years with the Boy Scouts; eight years with the Lions Club in Durham; charter member of the Mooresville Civitan Club serving as President, Secretary, and held other offices; 12 years as Chairperson of the Board of the Mooresville Christian Mission; worked on Habitat building projects; was President of the Mooresville United Way for two years and Campaign Chairperson for two years; and was a Mooresville Chamber of Commerce Ambassador for several years. Eddie was a faithful member and an elder at First Presbyterian in Mooresville. He served as deacon and Sunday school teacher at Alamance Presbyterian in Greensboro and as an elder at Trinity Ave. Presbyterian in Durham. Through the years, he served on numerous church committees. His hobbies include vegetable gardening, do-it-yourself projects, working crossword puzzles, and traveling, having visited all 50 states. Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Althea and their sons, Dale (Sandra), Ron (Lisa); and granddaughters, Audra, Aspen, and Kelsey; a brother, Samuel Leo Nelson (Ada) of Greensboro, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. Services will be held Sunday, May 26, at 2:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Dave Rockness officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service also at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 249 W.
