The tradition continues.
When several of the Mooresville-area players joined their teammates on the Rowan County-based Little League Softball All-Stars 12-and-under roster by being recognized for their success during a recent Mooresville Spinners Southern Collegiate Baseball League, they were merely following in the cleat prints of numerous fellow products doing the same.
Once again this summer, as has become a ritual, surrounding area players are helping form the roster for the 12-U club that will be representing North Carolina once again in this week’s Little League Softball Southeast Regional. The Rowan County-based Little League Softball charter incorporates Iredell County as part of its coverage area.
For the third time in the last four years, the Rowan County 12-U team has earned the right to represent North Carolina in the regional field. The Rowan County club captured the recent state championship crown in Huntersville by racing through the double-elimination field without suffering a season loss.
As a result, the crew will head deeper into the playoffs with the playing of this week’s Southeast Regional being held once again in Warner Robins, Georgia.
Team members participating in a fundraising campaign in hopes of generating expense money for the regional experience were on hand at the Spinners game to acknowledge the accomplishment and also increase awareness of the continued success.
The players on this year’s team look to perhaps match the to-date premier performance put into place by the organization’s squad during the summer of 2015 that set the state on notice by capturing the LLSWS title. That ’15 team also featured Mooresville area talent.
The North Carolina team titlists will take on counterparts from Virginia in the Southeast Regional debut Thursday afternoon. Other teams forming the field include those hailing from South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and West Virginia. All games will be broadcast via the ESPNt Network.
At stake during the course of the double-elimination attraction will be the invite to compete in the LLSWS on tap to once again take place in Portland, Oregon, beginning early next month.
