Pine Lake Prep’s boys basketball team made matters interesting right to the end during the course of its regular-season debut.
The Pride battled visiting non-conference foe Northwest Cabarrus to as close as terms as possible and kept the outcome in question throughout before coming out on the narrow losing end of a 55-54 decision.
The result was rendered in what was Pine Lake’s first scheduled game of the season, one also designated as an endowment contest. It was also the only appearance on tap for the Pride during the month.
As a result, PLP will now take its 0-1 record back into play when tipping off action for the month of December.
A back-and-forth affair on the part of both parties inside the PLP gym found the Pride taking a 28-21 lead into the halftime locker room. Just after that break, though, the Pride lost five points off the margin during the third period alone.
A tightly-contested fourth and final frame on the part of both parties found the Trojans — who had already participated in one earlier game — overcoming the difference to post the one-point win.
It serves to make for an anticipated rematch between the same two teams set to take place in mid-January when they again face off to polish off the home-and-home series set on the Northwest Cabarrus’ home court.
No additional individual information was available.
Pine Lake will now be idle over the extended Thanksgiving holiday break before returning to the court when traveling to take on Charlotte Latin Dec. 3.
