That’s precisely the process Lake Norman’s girls tennis team followed when maintaining its status among the top-tier entries within the I-Meck Conference ranks.
The Wildcats racked up two crucial triumphs during the decisive doubles portion of play to account for the winning points in a close-as-it-gets, 5-4 nipping of cross-town fellow circuit counterpart Mooresville.
With the win, Lake Norman improved to the 2-1 mark in all conference-counting contests to remain one of only two teams with just one setback in league play used to determine all automatic postseason possibilities. For the season overall, the outcome served to place the Wildcats at the 6-2 mark heading into this the final full week of I-Meck play.
In the match, the home team picked up a trio of favorable decisions during the singles segment of play to forge a 3-3 tie following that particular portion. The Wildcats racking up wins included the cast of Samantha Dunn, Julia Dow and Tyler Mazzie.
With the verdict hinging on what took place during the course of the trio of doubles duels, Lake Norman emerged on the successful side following triumphs each collected by the duos of Dow and Samantha Beaver, and partners Mazzie and Leah Rankin.
Lake Norman heads back into play this week to highlight its final week of regular-season play with back-to-back home court appearances against Hopewell High and North Mecklenburg, respectively, over the course of a three-day span.
