The Lake Norman Wildcats returned to the gridiron Friday after a bye week --and it was a successful return.

The Wildcats defeated West Charlotte 19-12 to improve to 4-1 overall and get an important first win in I-Meck Conference competition.

The first quarter Friday was a scoreless defensive showdown.

The Wildcats opened the scoring in the second quarter and took a 7-0 lead into halftime.

After putting 12 points on the board in the third quarter, and holding the Lions scoreless, the Wildcats went into the final frame with a 19-0 lead.

The Lions mounted a comeback, scoring 12 points in the fourth but the Wildcats held on for the win.

The Wildcats will go on the road for their second conference game Oct. 4 against Mallard Creek.
