Mooresville High School’s wrestling team saw to that.
The Blue Devils extended their current program record-run of undefeated efforts.
Among the total of eight teams seeking to snare the team title, Mooresville made sure once again for the fourth straight time in a defensive mode that the trophy would once again stay right in town.
The Devils prevailed in all five of their head-to-head matches all conducted on a single day’s time frame and at the same site to once again set the stage for a successful home mat celebration.
In addition to host Mooresville, other teams forming the field featured the likes of Alexander Central, North Iredell, Mountain Island Charter, Sun Valley, South Rowan, Charlotte Providence and Northwest Cabarrus.
Like all others in attendance, the Blue Devils were assured of five matches.
In making yet another title run, the Devils defeated its countering cast by respective scores of: 65-15 over Mountain Island Charter, 60-23 against Northwest Cabarrus, 69-12 opposite Sun Valley, 54-29 over South Rowan, and 66-18 against North Iredell.
By doing so, Mooresville stretched its current winning streak within the Cure to cover all 25 of its last match-ups made in the pre-Thanksgiving holiday affair.
As was the case with its team success, several select on-the-mat individual wrestlers representing the hosts also enjoyed similar daylong success.
The crew consisting of Greg Merriman at 106 pounds, Davis Freeze at 113 pounds, Isaiah Lane splitting time at both the 120-pound and 126-pound classes, Weston Weddington at 145 pounds, Luke Goodin at 160 pounds and Austyn Barton at 285-pounds/heavyweight each also emerged as winners in each of their respective bouts to also exit the attraction with spotless individual records.
A host of additional Blue Devils aided the effort to also fashion multiple wins as well.
The likes of Timmy Deery at both 120 and 126 pounds, Desmond Jackson at 182 pounds, Amare Johnson at 195 pounds, and Ray Watson at 220 pounds all clocked in with at least three head-to-head wins apiece.
Other at least one-time winners for the hosts included Gage Thomas at 120 pounds, Bobby King at 152 pounds, both Jared Logan and Rocco Russo at 170 pounds, and Alexander Mercer-Johnson at 195 pounds.
Fresh off the capturing of another Wrestle for a Cure championship crown, Mooresville returns to the mat when helping form the field for the Cox Mill Quad on tap to take place on Wednesday.
