Three cheers for Pine Lake Prep’s girls tennis team.
The Pride has a trio of chances to try and bring home top titles from later this week’s N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 1A class individual state finals following a solid showing turned in during the course of last weekend’s performance.
Convening on the courts at the Elkin Municipal Park complex for participation in the NCHSAA 1A West Finals, Pine Lake secured one state finals berth from the singles segment of the field and collected a pair of such coveted advancements from the doubles field.
PLP’s Andersen Schubert navigated her way through her phase of the regional’s singles bracket safely enough to land one of the limited number of bids up for grabs among that cast to this week’s state finals.
Meanwhile, the Pride’s doubles duos of Sadie Ann Schubert and Lexie Moyer, along with court cohorts Kailey Patel and Sophia Taffert each conjured up the efforts required to also merit a state finals appearance.
From the West Regional, all entries in both singles and doubles making it as far as the semifinals all landed state finals berths.
Andersen Schubert will be among the eight players forming her bracket for play in the single-elimination state finals slated to take place Saturday.
That same morning, the pair of PLP twosomes formed by Sadie Ann Schubert/Moyer and Patel/Taffert will fill two of the eight available slots among their peers in the double bracket. Based on that draw, it’s possible that the two Pine Lake pairs could face off against each other in the doubles championship match.
Play in the individual finals of the NCHSAA 1A class girls tennis competition will be held Saturday morning at the Carry Tennis Park complex.
As a team, undefeated Pine Lake headed into this week’s second-round of the ongoing duel-team playoffs tabled to take on fellow unbeaten Lincoln Charter Academy for the right to move on into later this month’s third-round play in that phase of postseason play.
