Pine Lake Preparatory’s girls and boys swim teams were some of the limited number of entries from across North Carolina to capture titles in last weekend’s NCHSAA regional competitions.

PLP’s two teams racked up the highest number of points in their divisions from the combination 1A/2A Central Regional Championship Meet over the past weekend.

Pine Lake girls team accounted for its first-place finish by accumulating a total of 302 points to pace the field of 27 entries.

PLP’s boys team finished with several individual as well as relay gold medals on its way toward tallying a total of 339 points that was best among the 26 boys teams.

It was payback, of sorts, by both regional champions. Included in the field of teams from Pine Lake Prep’s PAC-7 Conference was a Community School of Davidson program that swept the league’s regular-season honors during the conference title meet held late last month.

Pine Lake was one of just four schools across the state to house both the girls and boys team champions from regionals conducted across the state. They determined the field of finalists for advancement into this week’s NCHSAA state swimming title affairs that will be conducted in a total of three classifications at the same site.

Some select participants from Pine Lake surfaced to help make the nabbing of the dual team titles a program-wide accomplishment,

From the Pine Lake Prep girls team, member Rachel Daly logged in with the lone individual first-place finish courtesy of her performance posted in the 100-meter freestyle event.

Also for the Pride, the crew of Daly, Marian Catahan, Scarlett Duncan and Regan Sullivan combined to construct the fastest finishing time in the 400-meter freestyle relay race.

As for the boys success, it came complete with solo event blue ribbons claimed by A.J. Das in the 100-meter freestyle, Nathan Adams in both the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter individual medley and Matthew Shelley in the 100-meter breastroke events.

In team-related events, the crew of Adams, Shelley, Das and Deavan Holder won the 200-meter medley relay, as did the foursome featuring Nathan Thornburg, Holder, Das and Owen Sypolt in the 200-meter freestyle as well as Thornburg, Sypolt, Shelley and Adams in the 400-meter relays.

For Pine Lake girls team, other points-producing efforts individually came from: Daly, Regan Sullivan, Catahan and Tieran Sullivan in the 200-meter freestyle; Mia Dontino and Lydia Miles in the 200-meter IM; Emily Dotson and Meila Hamm in the 50-meter freestyle; Bria Dioria, Jade Kennedy and Sydney Houston in the 1-meter diving; Duncan and Myles in the 100-meter butterfly; Dotson in the 100-meter freestyle; Regan Sullivan and Tatiana Greer in the 500-meter freestyle, Duncan, Dontino and Catahan in the 100-meter backstroke; and Amanda Foess in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Additional relay efforts padding the team’s point total came thanks Dontino, Catahan, Duncan and Dotson in the 200-meter medley, as well as Regan Sullivan, Dotson, Daly and Myles in the 200-meter freestyle race.

For Pine Lake’s boys, other individual placements carrying points value came from Thornburg in the 50-meter and 200-meter freestyles; Shelley and Henry Shook in the 200-meter IM; Das in the 50-meter freestyle; Noah Miller in the 1-meter diving; Sypolt in the 100-meter butterfly; and Holder in the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke.

Pine Lake will be among the favorites contending for the NCHSAA combination 1A/2A state titles in both the girls and boys divisions when that competition takes place Thursday at the Triangle Aquatic Center facility in Cary.{/div}
