It’s a small world, indeed.

Mooresville will have one of the 700 top youth golfers from around the globe in the field for this week’s Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.

Taking place at Trump National Doral golf course in Miami, Florida, Mooresville’s Aiden McCall will compete in the marquee competition’s boys 12-13 age division of the tournament scheduled to take place though the end of the week.

Top-tier junior level youth golfers from across the world traditionally participate in the annual attraction. This year’s field features players representing 43 states, six Canadian provinces and 28 nations.

A number of current Ladies Professional Golf Association and Professional Golf Association members are among former champions and top finishers in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.

Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations with more than 2,900 clubs around the world that reach more than six million youths each year. The Optimist Junior Golf program is one of the organization’s most prominent programs.

Play in the boys 12-13 age division portion is scheduled to continue through Sunday. Junior golfers ages 10-18 are eligible to participate.
